Coach Needed

The Reserve Sting Rays are looking for a new head coach for the 2008 season. We have a great team with committed assistant coaches and parent support. Unfortunately, year-round school changes have made it impossible for our head coach to return this year.

Please direct any leads or interested persons to sas1710@nc.rr.com.

Thanks,
Steve

Where's my blog invitation?

To post to this blog, you have to be invited to become a contributor. Invitations have been issued to each registered TSA Rep and alternate, but your mail reader program might have mistaken your invitation for spam. If you don't remember receiving an invitation, please check your junk mail folder. The first invitations went out in late November, and I renewed them on January 8 (apparently, they expire after some time period).

Invitation message are generated by blogger.com and look something like this:

We should add the Johnston County team for 1 year

I posted a comment to Bob's January meeting post, but I suspect it went unnoticed.

I believe that the current TSA bylaws, as written, allow the executive committee (the 4 officers) to approve non-conforming swim teams on an annual basis (see my previous comment for details).

Looking at the map, I see that Riverwood is not farther than Zebulon from 69 of the 71 clubs in TSA. Looking at scheduling, 72 clubs will be easier to schedule than 71. I cannot imagine having to "cut" swimmers from a summer league swim team to be eligible to compete.

I propose that we, the TSA board, ask the TSA executive commitee to allow Riverwood to participate in TSA for the 2008 swim season.

If it works out well, then we can consider amending the bylaws to accommodate out-of-Wake-County members. If it doesn't, then it was only 1 year.

Streamline Swim School

Streamline Swim School is offering track-out stroke clinics and half-day swim camps at the Triangle Aquatics Center (TAC) from now through the end of May. This is a great opportunity for your children to stay active during track-out while brushing up on their swimming skills before summer. There are various levels of instruction but all camps and clinics will focus on improving stroke technique, starts & turns, and endurance. You can visit www.streamlineswimschool.com or call me directly at 244-3097 for more information.

Greater Raleigh Championship Invitational Meet

This is not a TSA event, but many of our member clubs participate in this meet, so I'm happy to pass along some information from Melanie Stahmer of WAVE:

WAVE SWIMMING is anxious to host the 2008 Greater Raleigh Championship Meet again this year. With the pool at Optimist being shut down this summer for renovations, WAVE has secured the new Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary, NC for Sunday, July 13th, 2008 to host this event. We plan on running dual pools for this meet with the 10 & under swimmers in one pool and the 11 and older swimmers in the other. Another change would be the elimination of the 6 & under breaststroke event. We realize this would limit them to 2 events; however, the results last year gave a good indication that the number of swimmers in this event that received a DQ far outweighed those that received a medal. As you know, the Cary City Meet also eliminated that event in 2007. We also plan to change the information to allow swimmers to swim four individual events as well as the relays and increase the number of swimmers per event from each team. We hope that these changes will allow for a great experience for the swimmers as well as a quality meet overall.

We will provide the TSA reps with the TM software file, the event file for the meet and instructions as we did last year. Now that we are aware of the meet status and liability, we will also include the waiver that each swimmer must provide to swim in the meet to streamline the registrations. WAVE would like to present this to the TSA board at your March meeting if possible.

This year the meet will have an Olympic theme that will generate excitement for the Summer Games and we believe that TAC will be a great venue for this event as it will be a chance for summer swimmers to enjoy swimming in the finest facility in NC.

We look forward to hosting this meet again this year and look forward to hearing from you. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely-
Melanie Stahmer

A winter tune-up league for summer swimmers

Marlins of Raleigh head coach Paul Silver wants to let TSA swimmers know about a new winter league that starts this month, which he describes as "an instructional program for summer league swimmers to hone their skills during the winter".
