Please make checks payable to TSA or Tarheel Swimming Association. Checks are due to me by April 16th.

with the 2012 WAVE Swimming Spring Clinic

Swimming fast requires great technique. Learning technique requires consistent repetition. WAVE Swimming coaching staff will create the technical foundation necessary for successful competition.

Convenience, flexibility and affordability is what the WAVE clinics offer you.

2 x 1 hour sessions at TAC or 3 x 45 minute sessions per week at NRCA

$40 for the first week and $30 for each additional week.

This is not a “learn to swim” program. In order to participate, you must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle nonstop and unassisted. Clinic registration has limited availability and is on a first come first served basis. Registrations are accepted by credit card online or by mail with check.

Swimming Across America is Coming to Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary!

Back in July of this year, I had been diagnosed with Stage IIIA breast cancer. It was devastating. I began treatment to try to shrink the tumors prior to surgery, and, as I was surfing the web during one of my chemotherapy sessions, an idea was born. The idea was to have a swim to raise money towards cancer research. Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary has donated the entire 50m swimming pool on May 20, 2012. Swim Across America is publicizing the event, provided individual swimmer with fundraising web-pages, incentive prizes, and organizational ideas.

Since then, a number of area non-profits have signed on to the idea, offering their sponsorship. Among them are the Raleigh Area Masters swim team, Isis Athletics and le Tour de Femme. MOR, YOTA, YOTA Masters, New Wave, UNC Chapel Hill Swim Team, NCAC, NCAC Masters, RSA, Streamline Swimming School, Swim Tyde, and Tyde Masters are sending swimmers to this event. However, we are not limiting it to age group swimmers. The event is open to all ages and abilities. The whole point is to swim the events, have fun, and raise money to help find a cure for cancer.

Would it be possible for teams from the Tarheel Swim Association to send swimmers? We are working with Swim Across America, which is a nationally recognized non-profit organization, and thus tax forms and other documentation of this legitimate event are available should you need them. We really need your help, especially since TSA is so highly recognizable in the community.

Devereaux Devil Rays seek Head Coach

The Devereaux Devil Rays Swim Team is seeking a professional, dedicated Head Coach for the 2012 summer season. Having first fielded a team in 1998, the Devil Rays have grown from a team of approximately 50 swimmers to one with over 100 swimmers ages 4-18. As we enter our 15th year we are looking forward to another great season. We desire a coach who will motivate and teach swimmers while maintaining a fun and exciting team and family atmosphere. Our swim season runs from mid May through late July. If you want to be a part of team with Heart of Gold, and a parent volunteer staff, that is second to none, then this team is for you. The successful candidate's skills will include:

Head Coach

*Must be over 18 years of age

*2 or more seasons of swim coach experience at a rec level is preferable

*The ability to demonstrate energy and enthusiasm for teaching and motivating young swimmers

*A true love for working with swimmers of all ability levels including pre-competitive and competitive level swimmers

*A passion about teaching proper stroke technique and Sportsmanship

*The ability to manage Junior and Assistant Coaches

*The ability to work with assistant coaches to develop swim meet line-ups

*Access to E-mail daily

*Strong communication and organizational skills with swimmers, parents, Assistant Coaches and Junior Coaches

*Must be certified in First Aid and CPR, and Certified water safety instructor

February Board of Directors Meeting

Wolfpack Summer Swim Camps

The swimming coaches at NC State University are pleased to announce Wolfpack Swim Camps! NC State hired a new staff last summer, led by head coach Braden Holloway. This year the men’s team had their best regular season record in 12 years and both women and men are poised to end the season in record-breaking fashion. 

The staff is young, innovative, and full of energy and they want to share their techniques, focus and passion for swimming to age groupers in a camp environment. 

Camp Options are:

• Day Camp (ages 6-11) - June 11-15  |   9:00am-12:00pm  |  Cost $135
• Overnight/Commuter Camp (ages 10-18)  |  July 15-19  |  Cost $525 (Overnight)/$350 (Commuter)

*$25 discount for overnight/commuter camp if registered before April 1

The camps are perfect for summer league swimmers, year-round swimmers, or kids who just love to swim and are the most economical choice of all university swim camps in the Raleigh/Triangle area. The day camp would be a great jump start to the summer league season for young swimmers.

Please note that next summer (2013) Wolfpack Swim Camps are expected to offer more camp options. This year there is a focus on Olympic Trials during the summer, which limits the date opportunities, so please register early to ensure your spot in the camp!  

Marlins of Raleigh Swim Team Hosts MOR IN MAY- April 23-May 12, 2012

The longest-running springtime swim clinic--MOR IN MAY--is back again April 23-May 12 and is being offered in three convenient area locations.  Children age 6-14 seeking competitive swimming instruction in the four basic strokes will want to check out the highly-instructional three-week clinic.  Held at indoor pools at Ravenscroft School in North Raleigh, the St. Mary's School in central Raleigh and the Riverwood Golf and Athletic Club in Clayton, MOR IN MAY costs just $90 per participant and provides a great refresher on swimming technique for each attending child.  Applications are being accepted until April 13, 2012 and this clinic usually fills early.  The applications are available on the MOR website and there are Mon-Wed-Fri and Tue-Thu-Sat classes available.  If you have any question concerning a specific site, please contact one of the following coaches via email:
