Meredith Townes Mudpuppies seek a Head Coach to take us to the next level!

Our summer league team consists of roughly 150 swimmers aged 4-18 and competes in the Northern League of the Tarheel Swim Association (TSA). Our season runs roughly from May through July, encompassing weekday morning and evening practices, a Time Trial (mock meet), six dual meets on consecutive Tuesdays and a Championship meet.

Job Description
Our ideal candidate is a swimmer at heart; has competitive swimming experience, the teaching and organizational skills to help our swimmers become proficient in each of the four swimming strokes; and has the ability to motivate and unify a diverse team of widely varying ages and skill levels.

This candidate will manage the work of a team of assistant coaches, ensuring that all practices and meets are adequately staffed, that fun and challenging workouts are prepared for each practice, and that swimmers are well prepared for the on-deck and in-the-water components of summer swim league meets. This candidate will, in concert with assistant coaches, develop competitive meet lineups and have (or gain) a working knowledge of meet management software. This coach will also have a working knowledge of the rules governing the Tarheel Swim Association. Additionally, the head coach will work with members of the Board of Directors to facilitate occasional 'clinics' with visiting year-round swim team and university coaches, and individuals such as past/present Olympians, who have attained a level of success at competitive swimming and are able to share their experiences as motivational tools.

Perhaps most importantly, this candidate will have excellent leadership, motivational and mentorship skills. Swimmers, assistant coaches and parents will look to the Head Coach for a unifying influence and vision for the team that conveys their own excitement and joy about swimming. The head coach will at times communicate directly with parents regarding swimming-related development activities and answer questions about swimmer progress. The head coach will also bring any coaching concerns to the Board of Directors and may meet periodically with the coaches to assess specific areas of need that can be met with team resources.

Interested candidates should respond to Steve Ross (steve@sageanalyticalsciences.com). It is our goal to complete the search process by March 1.  Compensation will be a fixed salary, paid over the course of the season, and will be commensurate with experience.
