Congratulations to the Pool Professionals Scholarship Winners

Alice Emm of Carlyle & Chatsworth and Bryan Maass of Shepherd's Vineyard are the recipients of the 2013 Pool Professionals Scholarship. Each scholarship is worth $1,000.

Alice is a charter member of the Carlyle & Chatsworth Lakers and an assistant coach. An accomplished swimmer who will compete for UNC-Asheville in the upcoming year, her nominators describe her as a tremendous role model whose humility, spirit and dedication serve as an inspiration to the team's swimmers. Alice describes her experience with TSA as helping teach "me how to make swimming a team sport.”

Bryan is attending Appalachian State University this fall. A 15-year-member of the Shepherd's Vineyard team, he has won his team's spirit award twice and has been a recipient of the Coach's Award for outstanding spirit, dedication and passion. He has been a volunteer coach the past two seasons. "He gets more joy from coaching the (6 & unders) and seeing them succeed than he does from his own accomplishments,'' wrote his head coach.

We had 30 applicants this year and it was a very tough decision. Our teams have many terrific young adults helping to coach, lead and inspire the swimmers. Thank you so much to Pool Professionals and owner David Harvey for offering these generous scholarships.

Youth Water Polo

For a fourth summer in a row, Triangle Aquatic Center and Triangle Water Polo Club will co-sponsor a youth water polo team. The season will begin after July 23rd and end August 24th. Please RSVP. Information is as follows:

Practice: Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:45 PM at TAC. Practices begin July 23rd.

Games: Saturday mornings or afternoons:

July 27, 1:00- 3:00 PM at Triangle Aquatic Center
Aug 3, 8:00-10:00 AM at Heritage Wake Forest
Aug 10, 1:00- 3:00 PM at Triangle Aquatic Center
Aug 17, 1:00- 3:00 PM at Triangle Aquatic Center
Aug 24, 8:00-10:00 AM at Heritage Wake Forest

Cost: $6 per practice and $6 per game. Pay at the front desk when you enter the pool facility. (There is no charge for the two games at Heritage.)

Age: 11 to 17 (Girls and Boys)

Pre-requisites: Participants should be able to swim 50 continuous yards freestyle and should feel comfortable treading water.

Q: Why play water polo?
A: It is a fun, team sport and a great way to maintain aquatic shape during a slow time in the swim season.

Q: I can’t make all the practices or games, can I still play?
A: Yes, this is an informal team.

Q: I have never played water polo before, would it be ok to play?
A: Yes, we will help you learn the game.

Q: Is there more than one age-group?
A: In past years, we have played two age groups: 13 and under and 14-17. We may also have field separate girls and boys teams depending on numbers.

Q: Do girls play water polo?
A: Water Polo is one of the fastest growing NCAA scholarship sports for women. As a relatively new sport for women, it takes less experience to obtain a scholarship in this sport than others. A decent swimmer with some knowledge of the game and natural athletic talent could earn a full ride to college. Trivia: The US men’s and women’s teams won silver medals in the 2008 Olympics. Make sure to watch the Olympic water polo games on TV this summer!

For more information about the youth water polo team, please contact Rob Dickens.

TAC Titans registration is now open

The vision of a unified year-round swim team fully aligned with a state-of-the art home pool facility providing public access to quality health, safety, recreation and competition aquatic programming for Triangle citizens has been part of the Triangle Aquatic Center’s (“TAC”) long-term vision from its inception in 2002. On April 8th, 2013, the TITANS began a journey of excellence and the fulfillment of the long-term vision that will provide a progression of infant through senior health, safety, recreation and competition aquatic programming that will benefit swimmers, parents, coaches and the Triangle community.

Vertically integrating and aligning life-saving learn to swim programs into the TITANS Tracks year-round swim team (Preparatory - Challenge – Elite) within its own home pool facility, the clean and quality $15 mil Triangle Aquatic Facility, will better promote the health and safety benefits of swimming and allow each child to grow and compete based on their individual abilities and level of passion.

TAC believes that joining together around a unified vision and common set of goals to promote and build competitive swimming in the Triangle to heights it has never achieved before will yield valuable benefits for the children, parents, coaches and the Triangle community. There are many good aquatic organizations in the Triangle but TAC, and now the TITANS, are on a focused and passionate aquatic journey where the only acceptable destination is great!
We invite all swimmers in the Triangle to join in the mission and unified vision of TAC and the TAC TITANS and
become part of the journey to greatness. COME CHECK US OUT AT Evaluations will begin in July for appropriate group levels assignments.
