This is not a TSA event, but many of our member clubs participate in this meet, so I'm happy to pass along some information from Melanie Stahmer of WAVE:
WAVE SWIMMING is anxious to host the 2008 Greater Raleigh Championship Meet again this year. With the pool at Optimist being shut down this summer for renovations, WAVE has secured the new Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary, NC for Sunday, July 13th, 2008 to host this event. We plan on running dual pools for this meet with the 10 & under swimmers in one pool and the 11 and older swimmers in the other. Another change would be the elimination of the 6 & under breaststroke event. We realize this would limit them to 2 events; however, the results last year gave a good indication that the number of swimmers in this event that received a DQ far outweighed those that received a medal. As you know, the Cary City Meet also eliminated that event in 2007. We also plan to change the information to allow swimmers to swim four individual events as well as the relays and increase the number of swimmers per event from each team. We hope that these changes will allow for a great experience for the swimmers as well as a quality meet overall.
We will provide the TSA reps with the TM software file, the event file for the meet and instructions as we did last year. Now that we are aware of the meet status and liability, we will also include the waiver that each swimmer must provide to swim in the meet to streamline the registrations. WAVE would like to present this to the TSA board at your March meeting if possible.
This year the meet will have an Olympic theme that will generate excitement for the Summer Games and we believe that TAC will be a great venue for this event as it will be a chance for summer swimmers to enjoy swimming in the finest facility in NC.
We look forward to hosting this meet again this year and look forward to hearing from you. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely-
Melanie Stahmer
